Cement and Asphalt manufacturing require specialised fans to efficiently handle and manage from the processes of moving, grinding, preheating to heating and cooling.

From city building development to transportation infrastructure, the cement industry is an essential factor in sustaining continuous development progression. The production process of cement and its subsequent products, concrete includes several major steps below:

  1. The raw materials (mainly limestone) are crushed in a ball mill 
  2. These crushed raw meal stored and preheated through an electrostatic precipitator
  3. Raw meal react in a high-temperature rotary kiln to produce mature materials, clinker
  4. The clinker is cooled and stored 
  5. Mixing clinker with gypsum produced in the kiln in the cement plant. 
  6. Cement plant products are mixed with specific ingredients to meet certain specifications. 
  7. The packaged products are then shipped to consumers. 

However, the byproduct solid waste from the cement manufacturing process, also known as cement bypass dust, becomes a major issue of air pollution. These cement bypass dust is collected from the bottom of the dust filter in various manufacturing processes, for instance, crushing process and mixing process. Efficient air filtration systems become a critical process to ensure the plants meet strict environmental regulation requirements. Electricity is one of the main energy inputs. Worldwide, the power intensity of cement production is approximately 91 kWh per ton of cement. An international target has been set to reduce it to 87 kWh/t by 2030.

Cement bypass dust inherits alkaline material property in nature and becomes a severe air pollution issue. Although Safe disposal of cement dust requires pretty high disposal expenses, it still continues to pollute the environment. However, many applications have reaped the benefit of high alkaline cement bypass dust in treatment of municipal sewage sludge. In developing countries, municipal sewage sludge presents environmental problems and it contains parasites such as the insects and heavy metals in industrial waste. 

Despite high nutrition of these sludge exposed to land reclamation, these sludge would also cause contamination to the land. These sludge could not be utilised directly in land reclamation projects as it will harm the health of living creatures and impact on the environment. Similar to cement bypass dust, it costs huge disposal expenses for a safe disposal process. The cement bypass dust will enhance the fermentation process of organic waste and kill all microorganisms and parasites when mixing with environmentally unsafe sewage sludge. Thus, it is widely used as high-quality fertiliser.

A combustion fan with a burner heats and dries the aggregate. A baghouse system reduces waste and pollution by collecting fine sand and dust as the asphalt pavement is builded, using an induced draft or ID fan to suck the sand and dust through the baghouse collectors and return these particles to the mix.
